If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to complete a travel questionnarie for eveyone who is travelling (at least 6 weeks before you travel). This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. Return the completed questionnaire(s) to the surgery, and contact the surgery in a day or two for details of vaccination requirements for your journey.
The practice nurse will check what the requirements are for the countries and areas you are visiting and check your medical record for previous vaccinations. You will be given an appiointment with the practice nurse for the necessary vaccinationsand you may be issued with a prescription for the vaccine depending on what is required as not all vaccines are stocked in the practice.
Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because travel vaccinations is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service.
Please be aware that if you do not give enough notice you may have to attend a private clinic for your vacinations.
